Kerber gewinnt in Indian Wells zweites Match

Indian Wells (dpa) - Angelique Kerber hat zum zweiten Mal seit ihrem Comeback nach der Baby-Pause ein Tennis-Match gewonnen und sich beim Masters in Indian Wells für die zweite Runde qualifiziert. Die ehemalige Nummer eins der Weltrangliste gewann in der kalifornischen Wüste gegen die Kroatin Petra Martic 6:3, 6:4. Als nächstes trifft die 36 Jahre alte Kerber auf die an Nummer zehn gesetzte Lettin Jeļena Ostapenko. Das Hartplatz-Turnier in Indian Wells ist mit 9,26 Millionen US-Dollar dotiert. „Es ist großartig, es fühlt sich so gut an, wieder hier zu sein und vor euch zu spielen und alles zu geben, was ich habe“, sagte Kerber nach ihrem Spiel auf dem Center Court. Kerber war vor einem Jahr zum ersten Mal Mutter geworden und ist seit Beginn des Jahres zurück auf der Tennis-Tour.
