Ongos still tops as first leg comes to an end

Action in the FNB Women Super League continued over the weekend as the halfway mark of the 2023-2024 season was concluded.
In thrilling action at the NFA Technical Centre in Windhoek, Anna Shikusho and Memory Ngonda each scored a brace to give their side, Ongos Ladies FC, a 5-0 victory over V-Power Angels on Saturday.
The captain of Ongos, Lovisa Mulunga, scored the last goal for her side.
This means that defending champions Ongos continue to be at the top of the log and are seven points clear.
Ongos Ladies’ head coach, Shama Gure, said they did not apply their strategic approach. “We played more according to V-Power Angels’ style, but we collected three points today and that is important. Our performance could have been better, but the players did not have their goal scoring boots on today.”
In another match of the day, Girls & Goals defeated Unam Bokkies 2-1 at the same venue.
The game began with both teams playing at a high tempo, with Girls & Goals threatening every time they entered Bokkies half.
A breakthrough came when Gilrs & Goals veteran and captain, Uerikondjera Kasaona, picked up a pass from out wide before curling the ball into the far post to give her team an early lead. Minutes later, they doubled their lead through Beverly Uueziua. Experienced goalkeeper Lydia Eixas was excellent between the posts.
UNAM Bokkies’ Vekendisa Ujaha scored the only goal for her team.
University side NUST Babes suffered a 2-3 defeat at the hands of Arrows Ladies.
Elsabe Whitey Reinecke scored a brace, while Rooide Ndumba netted in the winning goal for Arrows Ladies FC. Nor NUST, Kahitu Nguvitjita scored a brace.
At Uukwagula Stadium in Oshakati, Ongwediva Queens defeated Ramblers 5-1 and Khomas Nampol lost 0-1 against Beauties FC.
At Mondesa Stadium, Namib Daughters defeated visitors Okahandja FC 3-2.
The league goes on a break this coming weekend.
