With two league points separating the top three teams, the remaining rounds could provide a bumpy ride.
Football clubs in the Debmarine Namibia Premiership (NPFL) will resume matches this coming weekend as the final stretch of the season gets back into serious jockeying for positions.
With the top three African Stars, Ongos and debutants Khomas Nampol all still in contention to be crowned champions this season, the remaining five rounds of matches are poised to produce an electric atmosphere as teams will be striving to get maximum points on each occasion.
African Stars will play Okahandja United at the Independence Stadium on Friday at 19:00, while Unam FC faces Khomas Nampol at the same venue at 17:00.
African Stars are currently on top of the table with 53 points, followed by Ongos FC on 51, while Khomas Nampol are third with 51.
The closest team to the leading pack is Mighty Gunners FC, who are on 39 points, but will need to win all their remaining matches with hopes that the top three loses all their remaining games given that they can only reach up to the 54-point mark if they win all their remaining five matches.
African Stars team manager Lesley Kozonguizi is inviting all supporters to come in numbers and stand behind the club which seeks for a second consecutive league triumph.
“The players have been training well and the team is ready because we just know the magnitude of our last remaining fixtures.
“We invite our fans to come in their numbers because the team will need support in the next few matches,” Kozonguizi said.
Khomas Nampol FC coach Fortune Eichab is adamant that the next few weeks will be crucial as the top three teams are likely to treat each match like a cup final and that is why they have do the same.
“This is going to be a tough weekend, because we are facing a team that has been doing relatively okay this season, but we are going to make sure that we get the needed points.
“We are also playing teams that are fighting against relegation which will even make it just as difficult for us as we chase the two teams at the top of the table.
“There is no time to fear because we have come this far and we have the right to have a say as far as the title race is concerned," Eichab said.
