Dirk Sauber wins European championship
Precision shooting
Namibia’s world-class operator Dirk Sauber won the Kahles Dynamic Longrange European precision shooting championship held in Italy.
His fellow team mate Janus van der Merwe joined him on the podium for the third place. Michael Barlow finished in 8th place.
The Namibian Precision Rifle Association’s (NAPRA) was invited to send three of its best shooters to attend the European Championships in Italy. The competition was held from 8 to 10 September near Pisa on the Le Arcate Shooting range.
The competition required shooters to engage steel targets at distances ranging from 200 to 1100 metres. Their shooting skills were tested on 16 different stages with eight shots and only 90 seconds per stage. A time bonus was allocated if a shooter hit all eight shots and finished before the 90 seconds par time.
Sauber had a final score of 120.6 points, Sindre Nyland from Norway finished second with 116.3 and Janus van der Merwe (Namibia) took the third place with 114.6 points.
Sauber’s previous achievemtns in the sport include a seventh-place individual finish at the 2022 world championship in France, where Namibia also finished seventh in the team competition at its first participation.
