Blue Waters triumph against Okahandja United

Blue Waters set the pace with a shock 4-0 win over second-placed Okahandja United in the second-round Debmarine Namibia Premier League football clash at Jan Wilken Stadium in Walvis Bay on Saturday.

The home side’s opener came in the 24th minute of the game, with Erastus Kulula breaking the deadlock.

Striker Junior Petrus came close to doubling the lead for Blue Waters, but could not find the back of the net in the dying stages of the first half. He was denied by an alert Bornatus Uri-Khob in the post.

Petrus continued causing problems for the backline and managed to squeeze in a rocket from range in the 40th minute of the game, doubling the host’s score just before half-time.

Okahandja’s goalkeeper was on top of his game and was called into action in quick succession, with Blue Waters upping the tempo in search of a third goal.



Brick wall in goal

When play resumed after the break, Kulula missed a promising chance created by Gregory Akumeb.

Petrus added another goal to his name and took Blue Waters three goals ahead of their rivals from Okahandja. The visitors tried to increase the pace, but could not capitalise, with Immanuel Immanuel acting as a brick wall in goal.

Petrus wrapped up the game by completing a beautiful hat-trick for his team and bringing the final result to 4-0.

“It’s the beginning of the second round; I am happy that we did it this time. We drew in Okahandja, we had to prove a point and this is what we want to display as a team. We score goals and it means a lot to the points we are trying to accumulate. The boys are improving and I am really happy with today's performance,” Blue Waters coach Lucky Shipanga said after the match.

In Saturday’s other match at Walvis Bay, Eleven Arrows suffered another defeat at the hands of Mighty Gunners (2-0). Bernard Horaseb scored twice for the Otjiwarongo side.



Black Africa delivers surprise

Meanwhile, log leaders African Stars maintained their unbeaten record this season - despite being held to a goalless draw by archrivals Black Africa at the University of Namibia (Unam) Stadium.

African Stars had already stormed to a 6-1 win against Black Africa during the first round.

In other results:

• Unam took a 2-0 win against Life Fighters, thanks to strikes by Paulus Amutenya and veteran defender Willem Mwedihanga.

• Tura Magic recorded a comfortable 4-2 away victory at Rundu against Julinho Sporting.

Theophilus Junias and Romeo Kasume each scored a brace for the visitors, against Julinho’s replies by Harrison Kabemba and Aaron Ladakpa.

• At Karasburg, Young African took Young Brazilian down 1-0.

• Bottom side Citizens played to a dramatic 3-3 draw against heavily-favoured Orlando Pirates at the Khomasdal Stadium.

Goal-scorers for Pirates were Kleophas Uiseb, McCartney Naweseb and Giovanni Engelbrecht – but they were also forced into conceding two own goals, while Joel Beozrah added a third for Citizens.
