Letzte Ehre für First Lady

Trauerfeier mit hochrangigen Gästen für Rosalynn Carter

Atlanta/Washington (dpa) • Die ehemalige First Lady der USA, Rosalynn Carter, ist mit einer emotionalen Trauerfeier gewürdigt worden – hochrangige Gäste erwiesen ihr die letzte Ehre. Der 99 Jahre alte frühere US-Präsident Jimmy Carter nahm ebenfalls an der Zeremonie in einer Kirche in Atlanta im südlichen US-Bundesstaat Georgia teil. Es war ein seltener öffentlicher Auftritt des von Krankheit gezeichneten Demokraten – halb liegend in einem Rollstuhl in der ersten Reihe der Kirche, zugedeckt mit einer Decke. Seine Ehefrau Rosalynn war vor gut einer Woche im Alter von 96 Jahren gestorben.

Zu den Gästen der Zeremonie zählten auch US-Präsident Joe Biden und seine Ehefrau Jill. Alle noch lebenden einstigen First Ladys der USA erwiesen Rosalynn Carter ebenfalls die letzte Ehre: Melania Trump, Michelle Obama, Laura Bush und Hillary Clinton.
