In diesem Jahr nehmen die Tennis-Damen aus Namibia zum dritten Mal beim Tennis-Federation-Cup teil. Ein Erfolg, den die Damen vor allem Elizma Nortje zu verdanken haben, denn sie fördert Namibias Tennis Talente. "Wir hatten noch nie so viele Möglichkeiten, unsere jungen, ehrgeizigen Talente so zu fördern wie jetzt", so Elizma Nortje, Namibias einzige WTA-Tennisspielerin. Damit spielt sie auf den jüngsten Erfolg für die namibischen Tenniswelt an: Louis Brugera, Vater und Coach des erfolgreichen Sergi Brugera, ernannte Nortje zur internationalen Agentin seiner weltbekannten spanischen Tennisschule. "Sie ist eine der wenigen WTA-Spielerinnen, die ständig in Kontakt mit den neuen Talenten steht. Ihre internationalen Erfahrungen und Kontakte sind für uns sehr wichtig", begründete Brugera seine Entscheidung. So war Nortje die Schlüsselperson für die Entscheidung des jungen Talents Jurgen Strydom aus Namibia, nach Spanien zu gehen (AZ berichtete).

Der Federation Cup ist der nächste internationale Wettbewerb, bei dem Nortje ihre gute Talentsichtung unter Beweis stellen will. Aus diesem Anlass finden vom 15. bis zum 18. Februar Qualifikationswettbewerbe statt.
