Rugby und Boxen die großen Gewinner der Sportlerwahl 2005

Die großen Gewinner der diesjährigen Sportlerwahl sind die Sportarten Rugby und Boxen. Trotz der vielen internen Probleme beim Rugbyverband wurde dieser für seine Erfolge gleich drei Mal ausgezeichnet. Der ehemalige Rugbynationaltrainer Danie Vermeulen wurde zum Trainer des Jahres gewählt. Mit dem Gewinn des Afrikacups sicherte sich die Rugbynationalmannschaft den Pokal für die Mannschaft des Jahres, derweil die U-18-Auswahl zum Juniorenteam 2005 gekürt wurde.

Mit dem erst 19-Jährigen Amateurboxer Japhet "Slow Poison" Uutoni feierte der Boxverband sogar den Sportler des Jahres. Neu-Boxprofi Paulus "The Hitman" Moses setzte sich in der Kategorie "Sports Achiever of the Year" knapp vor Profi-Rugbyspieler Kees Lensing durch. Den dritten Pokal des Abends holten sich die Boxer für das beste Förderprogramm. Tennispieler Jurgens Strydom und die Turnerin Ramona Beukes wurden zum Juniorensportler/in gewählt. Den Pokal für den besten Administrator des Jahres holte sich Jesse Schickerling vom Hockeyverband. Der namibische FIFA-Schiedsrichter Arvo Mufeti gewann die Kategorie bester Schiedsrichter des Jahres.
