„Neue deutsche Marke“ ist da

Eurowings fliegt direkt nach Namibia - Reisebranche freut sich

Bis auf den letzten Platz seien die 306 Sitze der Maschine Airbus A330-200 der Lufthansa-Tochter Eurowings besetzt gewesen, die gestern früh überpünktlich auf dem Hosea-Kutako-Flughafen bei Windhoek zum Stillstand kam. „Eine neue deutsche Marke kommt nach Namibia“, freute sich Dr. André Schulz, Leiter der Lufthansa-Gruppe für das südliche Afrika, am Nachmittag im AZ-Gespräch über einen gelungenen Auftakt.

Nach Condor, die Windhoek seit Ende 2014 direkt anfliegt, ist Eurowings die zweite deutsche Fluggesellschaft, die Namibia in ihr Langstreckenprogramm aufgenommen hat. Das liege vor allem an der „hohen Popularität“ des Landes, erklärte Schulz. Man suche neue Reiseziele, weil andere (für die Deutschen) weniger attraktiv geworden seien, führte er aus. Die Terrorismusgefahr spiele dabei auch eine Rolle - kein Thema in Namibia: „Wir haben den Markt analysiert und sehen gutes Potenzial“, so Schulz, der auch auf das „gute Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis“ hinwies. Überdies gebe es bestehende Strukturen zwischen beiden Ländern auch abseits der Tourismusbranche, beispielsweise Namibier, die wegen Ausbildung oder Familienbesuchen usw. nach Deutschland reisen. All dies bezeichnet Schulz als „Kombination mit einem gewissen Charme“. Dies würde auch das Geschäftsmodell rechtfertigen.

Den Begriff „Billigflieger“ mag Schulz nicht so gern und spricht lieber von „Low-Cost Airline“. Eurowings wolle das „preissensible Publikum“ ansprechen. Dieses habe nun zweimal pro Woche die Möglichkeit, von Köln/Bonn nonstop nach Windhoek zu fliegen (Sonntag- und Mittwochabend), am nächsten Tag geht´s wieder zurück.

Just nach der Landung heute früh kündigte das Unternehmen an, dass Eurowings ab Mai 2018 einen Wochenflug in München starten und landen lassen wolle; ab Juli 2018 soll wöchentlich sogar zweimal von München und nur noch einmal von Köln/Bonn geflogen werden. „Wir sehen ein langfristiges Engagement für Namibia“, sagte Schulz mit Verweis auf diese Planungen.

Man sei hier „außergewöhnlich positiv aufgenommen“ worden, sagte er mit Blick auf Flughafengesellschaft, Medien und Reisebranche. Gitta Paetzold, Geschäftsführerin des namibischen Gastgewerbeverbandes (HAN), bekräftigt: „Eurowings verbindet unseren Hauptmarkt, nämlich Deutschland, mit Namibia. Das hat sich die Branche schon immer gewünscht und deshalb freuen wir uns.“ Zwar werde man weiterhin die eigene Fluggesellschaft Air Namibia unterstützen, aber Wettbewerb und weitere Passagierkapazitäten seien stets willkommen, so Paetzold auf AZ-Nachfrage.
