Nach dem andauernden Streit um die Höhe der Abfindungen, die an entlassene Arbeiter der Langer-Heinrich-Uranmine gezahlt werden sollen, haben sich die Minenarbeitergewerkschaft MUN und das Bergwerk Langer Heinrich Uranium (LHU) am Montagabend in Swakopmund einigen können. Die ersten Entlassungen sollen bereits zum Ende dieses Monats greifen. Etwa 300 Festangestellte sowie weitere 300 Arbeiter von Auftragnehmern sind betroffen. Ab August 2018 wird der Minenbetrieb eingemottet und die Firma nur noch notverwaltet. Laut LHU-Rechtsberater Johan Roux werden gewisse Teile des Betriebs komplett stillgelegt - einige Abteilungen wurden bereits geschlossen. „Wir sind zurzeit damit beschäftigt, den Pflege- und Wartungsplan für die Mine einzuführen“, erklärte er.
