Paediatrician
Paediatricians are medical specialists who diagnose and manage medical conditions affecting newborn babies, infants, children and teenagers. They deal with illness that affect the child’s physical growth, mental and behaviour development. Many paediatricians are in general paediatrics, proving a hospital role covering children from birth to 14 years of age. Dr Wilson Benjamin is a general paediatrician in private practice.
To become a paediatrician, possessing excellent and effective communication skills, an incredible amount of patience, transparency and being trustworthy are very important skills. “Your patients are the number one priority. Great paediatricians care about the wellbeing of their patients,” says Dr Wilson Benjamin.
“Paediatrics is a fascinating area of medicine and every age group has its own peculiarities. It is a privilege to take care of the medical needs of all my patients and at the same time develop lasting relationships with their families. Children do not pretend when they are sick. You can see they are unwell and the moment they are slight better they do not hide it, nor do they make up symptoms or pretend to be sick. They are great and always make my day. The most rewarding aspect of my work is that I am a very recognisable face because of my patients. They greet and hug me every opportunity they get,” added Dr Wilson Benjamin.
