Mauritia Gawanas: Interior designer



Interior designers create aesthetically pleasing, safe, and functional indoor environments by carefully planning space and selecting elements like colour, lighting, and materials. Mauritia knew she wanted to become an interior designer at the age of 14.

"I told my mother in grade eight that I wanted to be an interior designer. I kept working towards becoming one because of the promise I made to myself. Making your ideas and work a reality is the most satisfying aspect of this career – additionally, witnessing your vision come to life."

According to Mauritia, the most challenging aspects of her job are the long hours and tight deadlines. She often finds herself working on weekends with very little sleep.

She said in this industry, even the smallest mistake can be costly, sometimes N$100 000 or more. Therefore, paying close attention to every detail is crucial.

"Interior design is one of the occupations where you really need to love what you do and enjoy it. I would recommend it to anyone who has a creative bone," she advised.
