‘Special One’ Nangolo braced for fight night

AC Boxing Promotions is set to host its boxing event this Saturday at the Wanderers Sports Hall.

The main event will see one of the stable’s beloved sons, Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo, trading leather with his Namibian compatriot Jona Shikukutu in a non-title fight.

Promoter and founder of AC Boxing Promotions, Imms Moses, said all is in place for the fight night.

“I can say that everything has gone well and the boxers have been training ever since their last fights.

“It is indeed going to be a great fight and we really can’t wait for it to happen,” Moses said.

Nangolo, who has been representing the stable with flying colours, has already expressed his eagerness to battle.

He will however be wary of Shikukutu, given that the fellow Namibian would want to prove a point.

Nangolo has a record of nine wins in nine professional fights, with two of the victories coming by technical knockout.

He last fought in July at Nampower Convention Centre, when he defeated Herman Johnny by a technical knockout in round 2.

Shikukutu has a record of seven fights in which he won three, while losing twice, with two drawn result, since his first professional fight in 2021.

The underdog has however proven his worth by defeating Sem Mathews by majority decision in their fight that took place in Ongwediva last month. His two draws were also against credible opponents within the last 18 months – Nathanael Kakololo and Lazarus Shaningwa.

The main undercard of the night will be between undefeated Hafeni Ngesheya and David Shinuna in a super featherweight national title bout.

Ngesheya has so far won all his five professional fights, with three of the wins coming by knockout.

His last victory was against Steven Shilomboleni at the NamPower Convention Centre in July.

Shinuna, the “Opuwo Flash”, will enter this fight with a record of 16 fights of which he has won six, while losing eight times with two draws.

While seldom on the right side of the judges’ points scoring during his career, Shinuna has fought the likes of Jeremiah Nakathila and Sebastianus Natanael and has proved that he may be tougher than his record suggests.

In his last fight in April, Shinuna took revenge in a rematch win against the experienced Immanuel Andereki.

DESERT STORM

There will be six undercard fights before the main event.

The only former world title contender on the undercard is Sakaria (Desert Storm) Lukas.

The 39-year-old is on the rebound after suffering the first and only knockout of his career, against Raymond Ford of USA in their fight in Cleveland, Ohio, last November.

Lukas’ exploits in the featherweight division includes holding the WBO Africa title, winning two fights in Mexico and fighting three times in USA.

With the Namibian’s current pro record at 25 wins (17 KOs), two losses and a draw, he however seems to hopelessly outmatch his scheduled opponent from Zimbabwe, Patson Mutengwa (one win by knockout, eight losses by knockout).

Another potentially interesting prospect on the undercard is Ruan Rispel, unbeaten in five fights as a lightweight, taking on pro debutant Edward Mbangu.

DETAILS

General tickets for the event are selling at N$200, while a VIP table for ten costs N$10 000.

Namibia Media Holdings will broadcast the event live on NTV (channel 285 on DStv) as well as on social media.

Virtual Technologies, Readibites, Meat Market Yaa, Shipahu Insurance Brokers, Monasa Css, Sinco Holdings, Lefa Transpiration, Kadhila Amoomo Legal Practitioner, Focus Media, BPI technologies cc and Profile investment all bought tables for the fight.
