Cincinnati (dpa) – Wimbledonsiegerin Angelique Kerber hat beim Hartplatz-Tennisturnier in Cincinnati den Einzug ins Viertelfinale verpasst. Die 30-Jährige verlor am Donnerstag ihre Achtelfinal-Partie gegen die US-Amerikanerin Madison Keys in drei Sätzen mit 6:2, 6:7 (3:7), 4:6. Die Weltranglisten-Vierte musste sich der 23-Jährigen nach etwas mehr als 1:58 Stunde geschlagen geben. Im Viertelfinale des mit 2,8 Millionen Dollar dotierten WTA-Turniers trifft Keys auf die Weißrussin Aryna Sabalenka. Die 20-Jährige konnte sich mit einem Dreisatzerfolg (6:4, 3:6, 7:5) gegen Caroline Garcia aus Frankreich für das Viertelfinale qualifizieren. (Foto: dpa)
