Die Ariansstraße, welche die Nelson-Mandela- und Stein-Straße im Stadtteil Klein-Windhoek miteinander verbindet, heißt seit Mittwochnachmittag Simón-Bolívar-Straße. Der feierlichen Zeremonie wohnten unter anderem der Windhoeker Bürgermeister Muesee Kazapua und die Khomas-Gouverneurin Laura McLeod-Katjirua bei. Simón Bolívar (1783-1830), der den Spitznamen El Libertador trägt, war ein südamerikanischer Unabhängigkeitskämpfer und ist der Nationalheld mehrerer südamerikanischer und karibischer Länder. Er führte die Unabhängigkeitskriege gegen die spanische Kolonialherrschaft in Venezuela, Kolumbien, Panama sowie Ecuador, und er griff auch entscheidend in die Unabhängigkeitsprozesse in Peru und Bolivien, das nach ihm benannt ist, ein. • Foto: Clemens von Alten
