Get into science
Science and technology specialists can be found in almost any sector, from government to manufacturing to pharmaceuticals. The following section covers high-level profiles of various careers and employment possibilities within science and technology, details the major areas of opportunity and provides insight into education, employment. Those interested in science and technology have an opportunity to work on some of the most pressing issues of today (e.g. climate change) if you read more on an environmental engineer, in cutting edge research (e.g. examine specimens of bodily fluids for microorganisms), and at the forefront of technological innovation.
Careers in science and technology include roles in research and development for manufacturing industries, research institutions and government branches, as well as monitoring and testing manufacturing processes and products to ensure quality, safety and cost-effectiveness.
Science and technology professionals work for private companies and research institutes to develop new methods of operation, as well as in laboratories testing and processing materials as researchers and technicians for various fields including forensics, artwork and museum artefacts, healthcare lab processing, environmental research and epidemiology.
Science and technology careers also include work in the technology field to research and advance new systems and methods for transmitting technology. Individuals with science and technology backgrounds are also sought after in the teaching field.
The science and technology field has been one that has been dominated by males for quite some time but now women are starting to break barriers and entering the industry and making strides. This year the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEAM) hosted a camp for Women in Science (WiSci) which gave young girls from the ages of 14 & 18 the opportunity to learn all they could about science and technology.
