From invader bush to firelighter
Omuriro Firelighters are the world’s finest natural firelighters and are made purely out of invader Acacia hardwood scrapings dipped in wax.
The wood used comes only from the abundant black Acacia bush that is invading Namibia’s valuable farmland and also uses up a considerable amount of water in our dry country.
The firelighters are easy to light and burn much longer than other similar products. They are suitable for use in stoves, fireplaces and charcoal grills.
Omuriro Firelighters are not only a purely Namibian and handmade product, but also offers employment to 12 formerly disadvantaged Namibians, helping them to generate an income for their families.
People in remote areas receive training in how to produce these firelighters and become self-employed as producers.
Due to their outstanding performance Omuriro Firelighters have become popular locally and abroad, and are now sold in South Africa and Germany too.
Although they are slightly more expensive than other firelighters, they offer better value for money because they burn longer and have no harmful effect on our health.
