Fishing aids growth of Plastic Packaging

Plastic Packaging says it owes its growth to the fishing industry, which has been vital in seeing it grow from being a small manufacturer to one of Namibia’s leading companies.

Its acting managing director, Nico du Plessis, narrates how the fishing industry set Plastic Packaging on its path to growth.

“Plastic Packaging had been serving the fishing communities in Walvis Bay and Lüderitz before 1995. However in that year, we got the opportunity to buy a factory in Walvis Bay from which to manufacture and operate. At the time, it was a four-man operation,” says du Plessis.

According to him, Plastic Packaging had been serving most of the fishing companies.

“We want to say thank you to the fishing industry for the growth that we have attained over these past years,” he says.

“If it was not for the fishing industry we would not have attained the growth that we now have.”

The support of the fishing industry has enabled the company to grow by leaps and bounds.

As Nel explains, its plastic products must always conform to the highest safety and quality standards and this has helped Plastic Packaging raise the bar to align with what is required from the companies they serve.

“The fishing companies export to the European Union and we have made sure that we meet those standards,” says Du Plessis.

He points out that the products supplied to the fishing industry are recyclable and meet the highest health and quality standards.

“We would just like to say thank you to the fishing industry for the growth that we have been able to achieve,” says Du Plessis.

The group has branched out since its formative years and now operates other companies, namely Namibia Polymer Recyclers, Namibia Plastic Converters, Ango Plasticos, Huila Packaging and Plastic Packaging Cape.

Plastic Packaging is the Gold Winner in the Environmentally Friendly Manufacturer category and Overall Winner of the NMA Manufacturer of the year 2018.
