Acht Namibier steigen bei den African Games in den Ring

Am heutigen Dienstag eröffnen acht namibische Boxer bei den African Games in Marokko ihre Medaillenjagd.

Andreas Shikongo, Junias Jonas, Nestor Thomas, Tryagain Morning Ndevelo, Martin Hafeni Kambalili, Oiva Ueitele, Naftali Shoya und Immanuel Shaanika werden für ihre Farben boxen und von Cheftrainer Albertus Tsamaseb und dessen Co-Trainer Edwardt Kangoronduezu begleitet. Bei der zwölften Auflage des Turniers, das noch bis zum 31. August in Rabat und Casablanca stattfindet, stellt Namibia Delegationen in zehn Sportarten.

Jonas, der bei den African Games 2015 im kongolesischen Brazzaville Silber holte, startet mit einer breiten Brust in die Kämpfe. „Derzeit werde ich von der International Boxing Association als Weltranglistenachter geführt. Deshalb will ich Gold gewinnen, um mein Ranking vor den World Championships dieses Jahr noch zu verbessern“, sagte Jonas der Nachrichtenagentur Nampa. Foto: Nampa
