Stepping it up at Sanlam
Taking on the challenge to lead a new department
After working at Sanlam for 14 years, Michelle Strauss secured a new position as a high-performance centre manager since Monday, 3 October.
Overseeing and operational management of the sales support team and ensuring the high-quality completion of all administration and sales tasks on behalf of the intermediaries are part of the new roles Michelle Strauss has taken on at Sanlam Namibia.
Strauss has 15 years of experience in the insurance industry, comprising of premium administration, new business administration, underwriting and claims knowledge. She holds a diploma in business administration and is studying towards a bachelor of business administration degree.
Strauss applied for the position at her workspace on the internal employee vacancy portal. After she was selected as a successful candidate for the interview, a presentation on what she would do in the first six months in the position was her task to present.
As the newly appointed high-performance centre manager, Strauss will manage, coach, analyse and co-ordinate the daily operations of a team that needs to administer the new, existing and future policy administration requests from the intermediaries.
A new role
Strauss said the most exciting part about this new position is not only growth in her career, but that the platform to learn, grow and develop herself further is a reward. “To start a new department that will help boost intermediaries’ performance and help the growth of Sanlam is a challenge I look forward to.” In future, she plans to complete her degree and embark on completing a certificate in risk management. Additionally, she aims to one day successfully set up a new department that has overcome all its growing pains by assisting to develop, coach and mentor her team to further themselves in their careers.
In her new role, she said observing success will be an achievement. “I define success as learning and developing my skills and knowledge, growing as a person and trying to uplift those around me. Setting goals for myself I know I can achieve and even ones that scare me is part of it,” she added.
