Faithful dedication to her work
A single mother portrays her gritty and thriving career path
Olthia Munjanu's work at a supermarket opened the doors to her long and successful career at Momentum Metropolitan Namibia for the past 19 years.
Grit and grace are words that spring to the mind of those acquainted with one of Momentum Metropolitan Namibia’s client service administrators based in Lüderitz, Olthia Munjanu.
The 47-year-old Munjanu has displayed tenacity and fortitude during her 19-year career at the financial services group.
"This journey started off quite amazing and unbelievable. I was working as a casual in Shoprite in Windhoek, before moving to Oshakati in November of 1999 to be part of the group to open and establish a Shoprite supermarket there. I then worked there as a checkout controller," Munjanu said.
Then, in 2003, she was offered a job at Metropolitan as a result of "opportunities that were presented to me through a good relationship with a client. As a result of the amazing opportunity and my own credentials, I worked in the north for seven years and moved back to Windhoek in 2006. Since then, I have been in all areas and have dealt with several things regarding the client services department," she said in an interview with Careers.
For the clients
Munjanu, who was one of the trailblazers who fought tirelessly for clients to be remunerated based on their performance in the workplace, is described as "a woman of character with amazing analytical skills," by Anna Haipinge, Munjanu’s former senior manager in the client services department.
"Olthia and I both worked as shop stewards in the north, and since day one she has shown nothing but determination when it comes to work. She has amazing people skills and always has the clients’ best interests at heart. I have seen her negotiating for client demands and she truly exhibits a fierceness and tenacity that makes her an amazing team player," Haipinge said.
Munjanu humbly credits her achievements and the praise she has received to the Heavenly Father.
"Every day I had to motivate myself by reminding myself that I was doing all I could do for my children because I was a single mother, and so I had to keep myself motivated by telling myself ‘they have only me’. So, God has truly been my source of motivation and strength throughout all these years," Munjanu emphasised.
